View Full Version : Network interfaces do not work after returning from hibernation (SP2)

I have an IBM ThinkPad R40 with Windows XP Professinal. A few days ago I
installed Service Pack 2 to it, and naturally removed all that stupid
uninstall garbage immediately.

Everything seemed to work just fine, but now I've noticed that after
returning from hibernate state all network interfaces are not working.
Devices seem to connect (ethernet notifies that the cable is connected, and
WLAN notifies that a network has been connected to), but the interfaces do
not get IP addresses. In fact, no data at all seems to go through the
interfaces. Sent/received counts stay at 0 (i.e. even the DHCP calls aren't
actually sent through the interfaces).

As I said, I have an IBM ThinkPad R40 with Intel PRO/100 VE ethernet
interface and Intel Pro/Wireless 11 Mbps WLAN adapter. Both having the
latest drivers.

My friend has now experienced the same problem. He has a Compaq Evo N1020v.
He is able to use WLAN though after disconnecting the WLAN interface and
then reconnecting it again.

This is a really bad problem IMO since many laptops rely on hibernation.
Personally I'm pretty ****ed off about this goddamn SP2. I have paid big
money for this operating system and I think I therefore have the right to
expect it to work properly.

Contact IBM, as the problem is that *their* hardware and drivers do not
operate properly under SP2. The manufacturer needs to provide updated driver
files to match the new specifications. As SP2 was in testing for more than 6
months, and manufacturers were along for the ride, they have no excuse for
not being forewarned and ready for the release.
