View Full Version : XP Pro auto logson every boot after SP2 upgrade

After upgrading to SP I find that even from a cold boot, Windows now skips
the Log-on screen and takes me straight to desktop.

I tried logging off and then shutting down the computer. I even turned it
off at the UPS to make sure it was switched off completely: but as soon as I
booted it up again it skipped the log-on screen and took me straight to
desktop.

I only have/use the admin account on my machine because no other people use
it: but now I find that unless I actually turn off my entire system at its
UPS, "Partition Magic" software complains that it can only run from a
cold-boot, not after the machine has come out of hibernation.

I did notice that on boot-up and before the Win XP loading/flash screen
appears, I see the same progress bar(though very briefly) that is displayed
after my computer comes out of hibernation(but with no resuming windows
message above it.)

If the question your asking is why Windows logs you in automatically, Pehaps
it's because there is no password set on the user account you use. Try
setting a password from the User Accounts option in Control Panel.

Hope it helps,

Thx for reply - I seem to have stumbled across a solution myself.

I downloaded the XP TweakUI powertoy and set it so that the Admin account
and not just my personal account were shown on the log-on screen. Now,
because there are 2 profiles on the log in screen, XP no longer logs me in
automatically, and "partition magic" seems to run ok too!
=)
