View Full Version : SP2 Cause Internet Access Delay

I've successfully loaded SP2 onto my XP Pro installation, cleaned with
Ad-aware and Spybot S&D. No real problems. Of course it initially didn't like
my turning off the active AVG virus scanner, but it has given up warning me.
But I note that it takes abour 30 to 60 seconds after XP boots to access the
Internet thru my wired connection.

If I launch IE immediately, it just opens the window, but doesn't contact my
home URL (Yahoo) for at least 30 seconds. I suspect it's examining the
request or doing something. It's not obvious what it's doing (little or no
disk activity). Any way to reduce this wait time?

The computer isses starts to several services.
Some of these are dependent on the others to be running.

The FW blocks all activity while it does DHCP to the ISP and gets an IP
nemebr.

The Wireless service is slow to initialise.

0. Get a faster computer.
1. Reduce (disable) unneeded services.
2. reduce startup program(s)
3. Don't logon on for 30 seconds after the logon screen comes up.
4. Multitask by doing something else for 2 minutes.
(If you're that impaient, make sure you arte not using an Admin Account as
yor regular user account. :) )
5. Ask your a so so friend for a reality check. ;)

Sorry, Gerry, I thoht you said wireLESS. OOOO

I can only guest that it's because it is yahoo or that your ISP have their
DSN setup very tight to control where you get DSN sevice from. They may
limit you to one or two DSN servers and if they are busy, or on a server
that does other things it would take longer.(Same for DHCP)

Change your home page to MSN and try that as a medium time for a complex
page.
Then try google which pops right up usually.

That would narrow it down to being yahoo and not your connection.

If they are all the same call your ISP for suggestions.

I don't have this problem because I have a DSN proxy cach so DSN lookup is
only so often. I don't know how the DSN Client caches URL's or if it does.

I've narrowed it down to IE response. When I search for updates for my
antispam tools, the programs (Adaware and Spybot S&D) find their site
responses with no delay. So it could either be IE or something to do with the
Yahoo site. There doesn't seem to be any way to allow IE complete access thru
the exceptions list.
