My dad downloaded the update, installed the update, and rebooted his pc.
Now, his pc cycles through the cmos setup and immediately reboots itself as
soon as XP tries to load. I have used a boot disk to come to a dos-prompt
but can't find root c:\ at all...? I'm kind of at a loss. Why can't I find
c:\? I do have a ghost of his system, but want to save that for last option.
Anyone have any ideas?

There are some issues regarding some Intel processors. You may need to get
the latest bios update for the motherboard and flash it in. This fixed my
non-boot problem after sp2.

What is the quickest way of checking his bios for an update?

Note the currently installed bios version from the boot screen and then
visit the manufacturers site for the motherboard to download an updated
bios.
