I am preparing to enter Bschool in Fall.

The recommended software is ReadyWare Microsoft Office XP
Pro Academic.

I have searched everywhere for the "pro academic" version
and it's nowhere to be found.

Does it exist, and how does it differ from XP Professional?

Thanks!

Greetings --

The only differences between Office XP Pro and the Academic Office
XP Pro are licensing restrictions and pricing. You should be able to
purchase it through your school.

Sounds like they're referring to the Office Pro/XP Pro Bundle.

The differences are in the pricing and in the fine print (licensing).

Academic prices are generally only a fraction of the regular retail
price for the same product version.

They are available only from Microsoft "Authorized Education
Resellers" which generally includes the campus book/computer stores at
most post-secondary institutions and many major retailers.

You must present proof of eligibility, such as a valid student i.d.
from a post-secondary educational institution, in order to purchase
these products.

The license terms contain additional provisions such as that these
versions are not eligible for upgrades to future versions (service
packs are okay but not version upgrades); and they are not
transferable unless the new purchaser is also eligible to purchase the
educational versions.

It is a very good way to get low-priced software for use during your
post-secondary education.

Good luck

Office is not a operating system as is xp professional. Office is a suite
of applications for word, spreadsheet, presentation and database.
