Since loading SP2 Win XP Pro a few functions no longer work, Help and
Support, Search function and System Restore are the main ones. Most seem to
hang and do not progress. Any ideas??

Hi

Try here:

"Why doesn't Help and Support work?"
"Why doesn't Search work?"

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/top10faqs.htm

If System Restore isn't working, try turning it off/on - although you will
lose any existing checkpoints:

Right click My Computer, select Properties and then the System Restore tab.
Enable 'Turn off System Restore on all drives' and reboot your PC. After
that 1st reboot go back into SR and disable 'Turn off System Restore on all
drives' and reboot your PC again. After that 2nd reboot you should have one
new SR checkpoint.

Thanks, tried the System Restore suggestion - didn't work. The problem is -
trying to access system restore from Start/Programs/Accesories/System
Tools/System Restore:- that's it nothing happens it hangs with no more
activity.

Search/ Files or Folders is similiar after following from the start button
it opens the app but the whole page is blank except a "dog" blinking it's
eyes.

Help and Support is the same as System Restore no activity just hangs.

Hi

You can try and re-install System Restore. Open Windows Explorer and go to
the windows\inf folder. In that folder find the sr.inf file, right click on
it and select Install.

Will,
I had the same problem. Found this at the Norton site and it works. I also
lost the ability to view JavaApplets and Java Script. This restored the
problems you mentioned plus the above. Latter I got the JavaScript and
Applet nonfuntion problem BUT this should fix Windows Restore and the Help
function.

Hope this helps. By the way do you have any Norton Products on your HD?

Attempted to reinstall sr.inf, received a warning message that the files
were "older" than the existing - as it would be after SP2, so I didn't
continue. I guess I should overwrite with the old files and see if it
corrects the problem, then reload SP2 as a test. What do you think??
