IT gave me a new PC over the weekend with XP/SP1 and Office 2003 installed. Unfortunately there are some problems. I don't have admin rights so there are some things I can't do such as add/remove/configure printers etc.
What I do know: processor is Intel 2.6GHz, 256M RAM, 60G HD. hp LaserJet 9000dn connected to LPT1. LPT1 IS NOT mapped to a network share and the printer IS tagged as default printer. There are probably 10 mapped network printers as well. There is also a (virtual?) printer installed on or sharing LPT1 called something like Active Document Loader.
1) IE6: crashes every time printing is attempted. IE has encountered an error and can't continue. Would you like to send an error report. Answer no then another dialog box appears that closes IE. Not allowed to save as text file either - an empty error dialog box appears.
2) Can not print from a command prompt. ex copy file.txt LPT1 produces no results. No data is sent to the hp9000 (the the busy light never comes on) and no error messages are presented.
3) FoxPro 2.6 will not print to local printer.
4) A custom app written in VFP 6.0 will print to the printer with some modules but not others. The time it doesn't is when its creating and printing a PCL file.
It's almost like the LPT1 port is recognized but can't be accessed without using a windows API??
Sorry for the long post. Any ideas?
