I am new to XP home. It seems there are so many problems with SP2, help me
decide if I should get it or not. Thanks

This is a "help newsgroup". It does not reflect the millions
upon millions of successful SP2 installations around the world.

If you walked into a hospital, would you expect to find
healthy or sick people? If you visited a "help newsgroup",
would you expect to find posters asking for help about
a particular issue, or would you expect posts from millions
of satisfied Windows XP users who have nothing better to do
then stop by and post: "just to let you know, everything is hunky-dory!

SP2 is a solid, secure release. It is a major "Critical Update"
for Windows XP and updates over 5 million lines of code,
enabling much stronger security, stability, and affords a tad better
performance benefit. SP2 was extensively tested on hundreds of
thousands of various computer configurations over a period of
many, many months. I would encourage you to install it at your
earliest convenience.

Well, at least you guys are kind enough to spend your time helping others
get out of the jam they're in. This is commendable and appreciated. But the
fact is, it is always wise to investigate before you invest. Would you get
into an elevator which creaked and squealed? Would you buy a car which
sputtered on ignition? They are often signs of a deeper problem.

If our computers are disabled, often our lives are as well. It costs us time
and/or money to fix the problem.

One can easily demonstrate that even a billion computers and configurations
are not enough to perfectly beta test a complex operating system. So you
can't really blame MS for a mathematical impossibility. But it's not such a
bad idea to wait until all the fixes to the fixes have been identified and
issued.

Ask anyone in a hospital who drove a faulty vehicle.

"But it's not such a bad idea to wait until all the fixes to the fixes

The SP-2 of today is the same as the SP-2 of next year.
However more must be done than simply waiting.
You also need to research for possible issues with your particular
hardware and software configuration.
If all that is done is wait, the time is wasted.
