connecting via compuserve

Is there conflict between xp home edition and compuserve?
I can't connect to the internet, because cs keeps hanging
up or disconnecting on step 5 of the connection process.
(or it just sits there and does nothing on step 5...)
I asked compuserve, they said try this newsgroup site.
Can you help?
