On w9x and w2k I would place an item in the startup menu
then go to its properties and type either "-
runfromstartup" or "-nosplash" to keep the application
from appearing on the screen.

I tried these instructions on WinXP and it did not work.
How do I go about placing an item in the startup folder,
and preventing it from coming up on the screan during
power up?

Thanks for the help.

Sergio, it depends on what switches the applications provide. Not all
programs use the same switches. Some will use a minus with the switch,
others a backslash. Tech support for the program would be the best
source for this information.

One suggestion until you can consult those folks: For the command lines,
enclose any paths with long filenames or spaces inside of a set of
quotation marks.
