XP post SP2 downloading problems - Audio too

[Ouch XP SP2]

Ok, So I upgrade to XP SP2 like a good microsoft dube. After I do, my sound
come out like trask... every file but .RMIs sound like they are skipping or
something wierd.... the same tone gor a few seconds, almost like a modem
handshake, but all the same note. RMIs just have wierd gaps in them mostly
the work.

I figure I'll download the newest drivers for my sound card (Santa Cruz
Turtle Beach), when I find the other little present SP2 has left me.... I
can't complete a download!

The files start to download, and yes I DO get the window asking me where I
want to save it, the file gets to (usually) 99%... and hangs, or "completes"
with only 99% of the data downloaded. (eg. File size 9478 when it was
telling me it should have been 9842). If I try to install ay of these files,
I'm told that they are not good packages or something.

Any ideas? I'm stumped ... and about ready to scrap the OS and rebuild.
Maybe I'll do Linux instead.

I love Windows users who threaten to go to Linux. Firstly, why should
anyone care whether you do this? Secondly, if you don't know how to
research Windows problems, you aren't going to be very happy here on
The Dark Side. Now, on to your Windows problems:

How do you connect to the Internet? Cable? DSL? Dialup? What hardware?
NIC? Modem? Do you use specialized software from your ISP? Do they have
any FAQ's about their software and SP2?

As for the sound part, what about the codecs you had? Do any of them
need to be updated (like divx?) Give us some more information about
your system for more help.

Ok Malke, You're right... no one cares. As for researching Windows problems,
I come here when I'm at the bottom of the barrel... Been to the Dark Side...
didn't think WINE was ready to support enough of the commercial apps yet, so
I drifted off, maybe it is time to try again for something more than just the
custom apps I use it for now.

As for my problem:
I use a cable modem, with a linksys router. Disconnecting the router does
not help. There is no special connectivity software. I use the NIC on my
motherboard (not at home right now, don't know the brand\model). My ISP was
particularly unhelpful when I contacted them.
As for the sound part, I downloaded the newwest driver for the card on a
different machine, installed it and I've got sound back.

I'm glad you got the sound back. For the connectivity problems, I would
try:

1. Getting updated drivers for the NIC, probably from the m/b mftr.'s
site.
2. Swap out the ethernet cable.
3. Try a pci nic.
4. Try a different port on the router.
5. If a new cable and/or nic don't work, it could be your router is old.
They don't last forever. My Linksys lasted for years and then needed to
be replaced. That solved my connectivity problems.
