second comp slow?

hi i have a network of xppro and xp home, they both can browse the internet
but browsing each other is incredibly slow. ( i am using a wired network
with a 4 port router )

Dan,

Please provide ipconfig information for each computer.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\ipconfig.txt in Notepad, copy and paste into your next post.
Identify operating system (by name and version) with each ipconfig listing.

Does the router indicate a 100M Full Duplex connection for each computer? What
is the media type (Network card Properties - Advanced tab) for each set at?

Under Local Area Connection Properties, what items are used by the connection?

Under Network Connections - Advanced - Advanced Settings, Provider Order tab,
rearrange the Network Providers list to:
Microsoft Windows Network
Web Client Network
Microsoft Terminal Services

seen this in an earlier post...this may be my problem? it would be better
for me if both computers connected independantly.....

Dan,

If you have broadband service, with an Ethernet modem, and a router, using a
router to share the service is always preferable. Independent connection is one
of the benefits of using a router.

You said in your first post that you are "using a wired network with a 4 port
router". How is the router currently used?
