Hi,

This must be a very basic question. But hey, this is the
Basics newsgroup! :0)

I've noticed recently when I looking at file names in
Windows Explorer that some of the files are in blue font.
I can't find any pattern that makes one file appear in
blue and not the others. So what does it mean when a file
name is displayed in blue font?

The normal reason for files appearing in blue is that they are compressed.

If you don't say what you mean,
Then how can you ever mean what you say?

They are compressed files.

Greetings --

Those are compressed files. By design, WinXP compresses files
that do not get used, and, if you've left the default settings intact,
displays those files in blue.

In Windows Explorer, Tools > Folder Options > View > Advanced
settings: Show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in color.
