JT,

Please start by deleting the bridge from Jennifer1, and posting a new IPConfig.

Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

after removing the bridge I tried pinging everything

from both computers I can ping Jennifer1 by name and IP, and the dhcp server
but when I try psiamobile or 192.168.1.103 it times out

JT,

Can psiamobile ping itself?

Any firewalls on psiamobile (now or in the past)?

JT,

Forgive me, but I have asked yet what OS each computer is running. If either
computer is XP with SP2, check the Windows Firewall settings, and make sure that
the File & Printer Sharing exception is enabled, for the subnet only.

If that's not it, let's take a look at the static route table on both computers.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "route print >c:\route.txt" into the command window -
Open c:\route.txt in Notepad, copy and paste into your next post. Identify
operating system (by name, version, and SP level) with each ipconfig listing.

Cheers,
Chuck

OK, start by running both "ipconfig /all" and "route print" for PSIAMOBILE, and
comparing the two. Is the ip address for PSIAMOBILE 192.168.1.102 (from the
router print above), or 192.168.1.103 (from the ipconfig last week)?

If that doesn't help, reboot PSIAMOBILE and try again.

Get that resolved, then ping PSIAMOBILE using the correct ip address.

Once PSIAMOBILE can be successfully pinged (from each computer), make sure the
browser service is running on JENNIFER1. Control Panel - Administrative Tools -
Services. Verify that the Computer Browser, and the TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper,
services both show with Status = Started. Disable the browser service on
PSIAMOBILE.

Remember when you're working with My Workgroups (Network Neighborhood / My
Network Places), you're looking at output from the browser subsystem. Any
change you make in file sharing could take up to 52 minutes to show up in the
browser display - don't expect immediate changes.

psiamoblile is 192.168.1.102 on both reports

jennifer1 cna be pinged from both computers but pisamobile still can't be
pinged from either one.

from psiamobile when I open My Network Places>entire network>microsoft
windows network>Psia it says

"Psia is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network
resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have
access permissions. The List of servers for this workgroup is not currently
available."

ON jennifer when I open My Network Places>entire network>microsoft windows
network>Psia it shows Jennifer1, and psiamobile but when I try to access
psiamoobile it says

"//PSIAMOBILE is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you
have access permissions. The network path was not found."

I restarted jennifer1 and now psiamobile does not show up on the psia network.

Do you think I should just have a tech come here and fix it?

If PSIAMOBILE can't ping itself successfully, by ip address, there is a problem
with either:
- Firewall.
- Network configuration.
- Network software.

You said for PSIAMOBILE that "Windows firewall is set for file and printer
sharing exception and all subnets are checked." Do you mean that all ports show
"Subnet" for scope?

You are behind a router, right? If so, disable WF.

We've looked at the ipconfig, and the static route table, all which looks good.
As long as you have the ip address issue resolved.

Let's see what we can learn from the browser - you did check that browser is
running on both computers?

The Microsoft Browstat program will show us what browsers you have in your
domain / workgroup, at any time.
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=188305

You can download Browstat from either:
<http://www.dynawell.com/reskit/microsoft/win2000/browstat.zip>
<http://rescomp.stanford.edu/staff/manual/rcc/tools/browstat.zip>

Browstat is very small (40K), and needs no install. Just unzip the downloaded
file, copy browstat.exe to any folder in the Path, and run it from a command
window.

For more information about the browser subsystem (very intricate), see:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=188001
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=188305
<http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winntas/deploy/prodspecs/ntbrowse.mspx>

Please provide browstat information for each computer.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "browstat status >c:\browstat.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\browstat.txt in Notepad, copy and paste into your next post.
Identify each computer by name and operating system.

Maybe TCP/IP or Winsock.
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=811259

Give LSP-Fix and WinsockXPFix <http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm>, or WinsockFix
<http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=257> a shot.

If XP SP2, Start - Run - "cmd". Type "netsh winsock reset catalog" into the
command window.

If no help yet, reset TCP/IP.
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=299357

Start - Run - "cmd". Type "netsh int ip reset c:\netsh.txt" into the command
window.

Cheers,
Chuck
