Peculiar Pathway

Hi,
I'm wondering about the reason that when I attempt to
open a particular Word document on my desktop that Win XP
would give me a pop up box saying that "Mark already
has that document open, would I like to make a copy?".
I just click cancel and it opens ok.
I am admin, sole user and sole operator of the machine.
I haven't setup any other accounts. The only other one
listed is "guest" when I view the login options window.
I've logged into "guest" just to see what that was about,
and the whole desktop is different than what I have setup
for me as admin, so I know I'm logged into the right account.
No network. Just me.
This only started recently.
I checked the "all users" and "guest" directories' desktops and
the file is not shown in those.
