Here is the info you requested.
Cheznous is the new and primary PC
Chezmitchell is the old PC
Ping results for cheznous : all five successful
Ping results for chezmitchell : Pining itself and
127.0.0.1 successful..pinging cheznous by name or address
failed.
A point to not..if cheznous is up and running and then
chezmitchell is booted up..chez mitchell locks at logon
screen or shortly after. However if cheznous is switched
off everything is ok

Ferdy,
You're running Teredo Tunneling, aka IPV6. Do you need access to IPV6 address
space?
Please start by un installing IPV6, aka Advanced Networking, from the list of
items under Local Area Connection Properties. You only need the following items
in the list:
Client for Microsoft Networks
File and Printer Sharing For Microsoft Networks
QoS Packet Scheduler (optional)
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
If you need IPV6, you can re install it later, after you get file sharing
working.
After un installing IPV6 (and reboot), repeat diagnostics.
If there's still a problem, let's look at your browser structure.
Make sure the browser service is running on the newer (most powerful?) computer.
Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services. Verify that the Computer
Browser, and the TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper, services both show with Status =
Started. Disable the browser service on the older computer.
The Microsoft Browstat program will show us what browsers you have in your
domain / workgroup, at any time, and whether everything is visible.
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=188305
You can download Browstat from either:
<http://www.dynawell.com/reskit/microsoft/win2000/browstat.zip>
<http://rescomp.stanford.edu/staff/manual/rcc/tools/browstat.zip>
Browstat is very small (40K), and needs no install. Just unzip the downloaded
file, copy browstat.exe to any folder in the Path, and run it from a command
window.
For more information about the browser subsystem (very intricate), see:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=188001
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=188305
<http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winntas/deploy/prodspecs/ntbrowse.mspx>
Please provide browstat information for each computer.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "browstat status >c:\browstat.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\browstat.txt in Notepad, copy and paste into your next post.
Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

Ferdy,
Is Windows Firewall enabled on either computer (using it is a good idea). You
need to enable the File and Printer Sharing exception, with scope set to subnet.
If that doen't help, let's look at the static route for each computer.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "route print >c:\route.txt" into the command window -
Open c:\route.txt in Notepad, copy and paste into your next post.
Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
