Is there a way to verify on which IDE channel an HDD/CDR..are connected,
without physical verification

During the boot process, that information is displayed. However, many of
your proprietary manufacturers ship their PC's with spash screens which hide
that data during the boot process.

If your system doesn't hide the boot info with a spash screen, look for a
boot option within your BIOS setup; ie: quick boot or something similar
which might cause the data to not be displayed.

I don't know of any other area which displays that information.

Hope this helps,

Your PC should display this info when it boots, but you can't
always see it (it goes by too fast on mine). You might want
to boot into the BIOS (usually by pressing DEL a few times as
you boot). My BIOS has a screen that shows what hardware it
has detected.

Another way is to use a free hardware inspection utility like
PC Wizard:

Under "Drives" you can just click on any attached drive and
it will tell what you want to know. Another handy utility
that will tell you the same thing is SiSoft's Sandra:

The standard version of Sandra is free.

Easiest usually is to check in BIOS setup, after hitting the right hot
key at power on
