A question came to mind about XP SP2 and system restore. Hope to get some
light shed on this. A friend of mine told me that once you downlaod SP2 you
can no longer use the system restore function for windows XP. Is this true?
System Restore has came in usefull with a teenager using my computer and has
messed up some settings for me. Sure do not want to lose such a helpful
feature.

Hi
No that is not true. If need be, but is not advisable, SR can be used to
'uninstall' SP2 and revert to a previous version of XP.

SR checkpoints are created in SP2 the same way as they were created in
previous versions of XP.

Hi Louie,
Your friend is mistaken. His/her SR may have become corrupt and no longer
functions. The usual solution to the problem is to R-click My Computer and
choose Properties, then on the System Restore tab, check the box for "Turn
off System Restore on all drives". Reboot the system and then go back to the
SR box and uncheck it. Then, manually create a new restore point. Of course,
all old restore points will have been deleted, but if SR wasn't working,
that is no lose.

Your friend is wrong. That's completely false.

I installed SP2 and started to have some difficulties so I did a system
restore. When I went to Add/remove in control panel there was SP2 there so I
removed it. I then went back and attempted to reinstall SP2 and the update
states that it is currently installed but now it doesnt show up in my
Add/Remove programs. So now I need to remove it completely and nothing works.
I even tried the cmd in the run program to remove it from there but nothing
works. Any ideas?

Are you offering an answer to someone else's post or posting a new
question of your own? If a new question post it as a new thread, don't
hijack someone else's thread.

No it is not. It may be a distortion of the position that restore
points made before SP2 are deleted, so you can't go back earlier than
that without uninstalling it and then using the enormous restore point
it should have made
