My video software (Pinnacle studio) says I should shut down all unnecessary
programs and processes before capturing and/or rendering video.

When I had Windows ME, this seemed pretty easy. But now that I have Windows
XP, it looks to be more complicated: lots of "processes" going on "behind
the scenes".

How do I know what to shut down, and what to keep running?

Hopefully this will help you

Turning off processes before doing video work?

Then find out what they all do by reading this site
