Programs Running & Unread E-mail Notification

My Welcome Screen no longer displays the number of
programs running and unread e-mail count for my ID on the
Welcome Screen. It does display this information for
other IDs on the same screen.

I'm being told this feature is now handled by Windows
Messenger and that I need to configure the optional addin
called hotmail, but I'm not sure how to do this.

Can anyone advise me on this?
