Help! Is anyone seeing a problem with Windows Xp SP2 losing track of
working drivers?
I have recently worked on 4 different systems (Dell,HP.Gateway and
Homebuilt) that had peripherals, such as modems and sound cards, fail .
The solution was to go to device manager and uninstall the devices and
let them be redetected on a restart. I now have a Dell that has
apparently lost IDE controller 0 and I cant get the system to boot to
the harddrive even with a new harddrive installed

I have not seen any problems such as this, but it does not surprise me.
There are many things that can be adversely affected by Service Pack
2. I don't believe it causes as many problems as some seem to have
(most likely a different cause they attribute to SP2).
Another thing you can always do is reinstall the drivers. This has
fixed most other problems seen with SP2 ;)

Did you get your problem fixed ? I am curious because I am having the same
problems myself and don't know how to go about it. Please reply to the
group. Thanks.
