I am running an Intel(r) Pentium(r) 4 CPU @ 1.6 GHz. My operating system is
WindowsXP Professional. The sound system is an Intel(r) 82801 BA/BAM ac'97
Audio Controller. The driver for this sound card is ac97intc.sys, 5.10.3523
built by Win DDK.
I have read through all of the messages in this area. Is there a target
date for a permanent fix to the MSN Messenger versus WindowsXP conflict. My
reviews show a number of proposed work arounds but none seem to be indorsed
by the product copyright owner.
Starting on or about August 11 the voice sending side of my Windows
Messenger quit working. Switching over to ICQ, I found its Talk feature
worked fine in both send and receive. That was about the same time the
Blaster Worm hit the system. Norton quickly recovered the system and the
patch was installed. After a cold reboot, neither Windows or MSN Messenger,
or ICQ Talk, would work on send yet all three worked on receive voice.
Troubleshooting using the WindowsXP Professional Operating System does not
give me any answers in this area therefore, even though I have a copy of the
driver for the sound card, I am reluctant to upload it to the Windows
System32. Can anyone give me some guidance in this area? Would
reinstalling the driver provide solution to the problem or am I overlooking
some other setting? Is it possible that I have a hardware problem with the
installed Audio Controller and not a software problem? How can I determine
the cause and its resultant fix?
