I purchased a Dell 4550 in Nov. The hard drive went out
recently - Dell replaced it. When new, on delivery, right
after booting up the image of a chess board and my name
as "computer administrator" appeared. After hard drive
replacement it no longer appears. It's basic I'm sure but
danged if I can figure out how to get it back Any help
here?
Thank you

Without a password on the account and with only one active user account,
XP will boot directly to the desktop instead of stopping at the welcome
screen or presenting the classic style logon prompt. To make XP stop at
that screen, add a password to your account. Here's how:

Control Panel> User Accounts
Use the choices in this window to add the password to your account.
While you're here, you may also want to double check that "use Welcome
screen" is still selected under "Change how users log on and log off."
If you uncheck this box, you will get the classic style logon prompt
instead.
