View Full Version : Why is Boot Up Slow with SP2?

Since installing SP2, my machine boots up very slowly.
Formerly I barely saw the "Welcome" screen, but now it shows
up for some time. Seems like a long time before my startup
applications begin to load and then a long time after they
seem to be loaded and showing in the toolbar. Sorry, but I
don't have any stopwatch measurements for a better comparison.

Does SP2 turn on more services automatically or start up more
"stuff" than before? Is there anything like a "verbose" mode
to watch the start up sequence?

If there is a more appropriate newsgroup to ask this question,
please advise. Thanks for listening.

Thanks for the suggestion.

No. I did a thorough system cleanup and defrag before I
installed SP2, but not after. I will give it a try and report
back.

Did another thorough system cleanup (using Disk Cleanup and
CCleaner) and defragged, but still booting up slow. As far as
I can tell, the services I had previously disabled or set to
manual are the same.

SP2 still boots up very much slower. Oh, well :(

SP2 reset my avast antivisrus so that it did a complete scan every time
I booted. That's what cause MY slow boot.
