SP2....IE home page occasionally hijacked....

Hi all.....

I normally have my IE home page set as 'blank'.

I installed SP2 a couple of weeks ago. Upon startup of IE for the first time
after installing SP2 I found that the home page had been set to
ninemsn.com.au, which is a partnership between MS and Channel Nine here in
Australia. I immediately reset the home page to 'blank'.

A couple of times I've noticed that the home page has set itself back to
ninemsn.com.au. It has done this tonight after I ran a routine Spybot S&D
scan. I haven't detected a pattern to this, but I suspect that this homepage
has been set as a default when registry entries are reset.

I find it hard to believe that a legitimate media organisation such as
Channel Nine would be party to some sort of hijacking stunt, but anyway....

Has this occurred to anyone else, either with ninemsn.com.au, or other media
organisations in partnership with MS in other countries?

I run Ad-Aware regularly, and have used CWShredder to remove the
CoolWebSearch hijack a while back.

What bugs me is that Channel Nine is a major (and therefore supposedly
legit) player. It's as if NBC in the US or the BBC in the UK were hijacking
the system.

I'll check out Spy Sweeper and SpyWareBlaster.

SpyWareBlaster runs in the background and is non-intrusive - at least I've
found it so. Make sure that you update to the latest versions of the
programs.
