How do I control which programs start or do not start
when I start up my computer?

Hi Tony -
To modify which programs are automatically started when you start your
computer, you need to add or remove shortcuts to your startup directory. To
do this:
1. Select Start -> All Programs
2. Right click the 'Startup' menu item and select open.
3. To add programs drag the program into the directory. This will
create a shortcut to the program.
4. To remove programs delete the shortcut from the directory. This will
not delete the program itself, just the shortcut to it.

You could also download Reg Cleaner(Freeware) http://www.vtoy.fi/jv16/index.php and control your start-ups from there.

Look at each program to see if it has an option not to start
automatically. If it doesn't, you can disable it by running
MSCONFIG from the Start | Run line.
I see that someone else told you to edit the startup folder
directly. That will let you control *some* programs that start
automatically, but not all programs start from the startup
folder.
