I have removed the messenger service from my computor but
am still receiving some stray messenger ads, concerning
my security and other junk messages. What I would love to
know is this. How can I still receive this service if it
is not even on my system???

If you removed Windows Messenger, that has nothing to do with the "Messenger
Service" that the pop-ups use. You need to go to the control panel,
administrative tools, Services shortcut and set the "Messenger" in that list
to disable or manual.
Also read the note when you select the "Messenger" feature. It will tell
you that it has nothing to do with the Windows Messenger.

Stopping the Messenger service will keep future pop-up advertising from
exploiting the service, but will not remove any that have already accessed
and become resident on your computer. Download the freeware version of
Ad-Aware, install and run- it will detect and remove most spyware and
malware.

Hi Fitz,
The "Messenger Service" can *not* be used to deliver spyware applications, it simply displays
text messages. You can't "get" anything from them.
