View Full Version : SP2 vs. Norton AntiVirus

Hello,
I can't get the SP2 Security Centre to recognize my Norton AntiVirus, which
also might be the cause that the download/installation of the Symantec WMI
update fails.
I have tried re-installing NAV, but this has not solved the problem.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get SP2 to recognize NAV?
Many thanks,
Bert

Manually use Norton's LiveUpdate. It will download the
Norton WMI Update and once it is installed, Windows Security
Center will properly monitor your Norton program.

Hi,
thanks for the quick response, however I can download it using LiveUpdate
but when it tries to install the WMI it fails with "LU1806 error when
installing Norton WMI update". The error description and recovery procedure
are not very clear to me.. must be me :p. If someone could perhaps explain
what I need to do in "simple" words *grinz* it would be highly appreciated.
Thx,
Bert.

Heres a trick I used to stop monitoring. Open security
center, click on AntiVirus, More Info. In window check on
the item "I have a third party AntiVirus i will monitor and
update myself" OK and close Security Center. Restart.

Only NAV 2004 (updated) and NAV 2005 are supported in SP2, Bert.

That changed a week or two ago when Norton released updated for 2002
and 2003 versions:

What does that mean?
My Nav2003 WMI driver downloaded but takes up 20% of a Pent 4 2.4 HT. It
works fine on a pre Sp2 NAv2003 install but the Post SP2 install it using
the high CPU.
The only other diference is the High CPU machine uses the WFW and the othe
uses 3rd party.
I haven't been able to use Auto Protect on the Post SP2 install ever with
out the NAV driver crashing the system within an hour or so.

You need a Live Update of NAV so it sends the needed message to Security
center; update is available for NAV 2003 or later, not for earlier
versions

I am actually trying to download it using LiveUpdate, it downloads it but it
fails during the installation for some reason with this LU1806 error
message...

See JupiterJones' post in this thread, Alex. It seems NAV 2002 is also
supported now.

Be sure your LiveUpdate is NOT in interactive mode when attempting to
d/l WMI... (CONTROL PANEL/SYMANTEC LIVEUPDATE)
Your might find these pages helpful (LOOONNNNGGGG URLS!):
Installing the Norton Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Update:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/sharedtech.nsf/docid/2004081709433813?Open&src=con_web_nam&docid=2004070814522613&nsf=sharedtech.nsf&view=docid&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl=
