View Full Version : no LAN connection after SP2

After installing SP2 on my notebook with XP professional I cannot get onto the internet any more though my LAN-connection (to ADSL modem). It says there is some problem with assigning a IP address.
I have three other XP computers running with SP2 with the same TCP/IP settings and they have no problem on the same network.
What could be the cause of this problem? And what the solution?

SP2 automatically enables the Windows Firewall. From its Control Panel
applet, add your lan as an exception. Perhaps the other computers have
different firewalls or were configured differently.

What's the output from IPCONFIG /ALL ?
If it's showing a 169.254.x.x address, the PC was unable to contact a DHCP
server.
If this behaviour began with the installation of SP2, it is likely that the
machine had an infestation of spyware before SP2 was applied. The
application of SP2 has broken this, and left the spyware's hooks into the
TCP/IP stack broken. The usual fix for this is a program called LSPfix:

Thank you. You provided part of the solution. LSP fix did not solve it
however. I found a program to repair my winsock and that did the job.
