Hi,
I have IBM ThinkPad R40 with Windows Xp and recently I have update
to SP2. After this transfering files between as/400 at office and laptop
are not
working.
I can connect and logon with ftp client but commands GET and PUT does not
working.
(I use client that came with Windows)
I have try everithing I found on Internet (reseting firewall, set ftp to
passive mode, allow ftp
on firewall and even disable firewaal but only thing i could is to connect
but commands like
get and put does not work.
One more strange thing is that I use Cisco VPN client software to connect on
some other as/400 on another location and everything is working fine. (VPN
is set to use UDP protocol).
Before SP2 everything was OK.
Please, if anyone has same problem to help me , because I do not want to
reinstall everything
from beginning.

FTP uses 2 connections: control and data.
Control connection always initiated from client to server.
Data connection can be initiated from server to client ( Active FTP ),
or from client to server ( Passive ).
From your description, the control connection is working OK, but the data
connection is being blocked. This is almost certainly a firewall issue.
The command-line FTP on XP only does active mode FTP.
So ensure the File Transfer Program ( their error, not mine! ) is listed as
an exception in the XP firewall exceptions tab.
If that fails, then try disabling the firewall totally as a test.
If it still fails, then look at the Cisco VPN client, and ensure that you
have not accidentally enabled its always-on Statefull Firewall. I have
seen this becoming enabled and causing exactly this problem.

Thank you for your help but most of the thing you wrote I already tryed
without no luck.
For VPN I am pretty sure it's OK because the same configuration is used on
WIN2K.
Firewall was also disabled for test but still not working. FTP was listed as
an exception.
Not sure what port is for data connection ( is it 20?) so i try to open it.
I have also uninstalled SP2 hoping that ftp will work but after uninstall
the problem remains.

I'm still fairly sure you have a firewall problem.
Are you 100% certain there's no other firewall running?
Don't dismiss the VPN client suggestion so quickly, though.
I've come across several cases where the firewall built in to the cisco VPN
client has activated itself, and this causes the exact problem you are
seeing.
Just check to see that the Statefull Firewall ( Always on ) is not enabled.
This will block the inbound data link.

Hi!
Yes, this was the problem. This is first time I had such a problem with
Sisco VPN.
After disabling Statefull Firewall ftp is working again.
Thank you very much for help.
