You will probably get a faster and more expert answer if you post this to an
Outlook Express news group.

Try posting in one of these newsgroups:
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie5.outlooke xpress for OE 5.x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie55.outlook express for OE 5.5x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlooke xpress for OE 6.x
microsoft.public.internet.outlookexpress.mac for OE for Macintosh

If those groups aren't carried on the news server that's carrying this group
try using msnews.microsoft.com (MS's public news server that's the source
for all the microsoft.public newsgroups).

That suggestion will probably not solve the problem.
I've had the same problem for months and have not been
able to obtain a solution yet. My problem started
after I installed the XP SP1 update.

I tried uninstalling & reinstalling IE, but the problem
remains.

Try the suggestion anyway; it was with SP1 that the option defaults to the
more secure "do not allow". It needs to be unchecked to open attachments (at
your own risk).
