instant messenger

How can I delete the microsoft instant messenger icon
off of my taskbar? we have done everything that we can
think of and we can't get rid of it. We use XP. It is
maddening. It's hard to get anything deleted from the
taskbar. We would appreciate any help we can get, Thanks,

Greetings Joyce,

To remove it, simply double-click the icon, choose the Tools menu, then Options, then
Preferences tab, then uncheck 'Run this program when Windows starts' and click OK.

Then right-click the icon and choose Exit. It should no longer load up when you boot up your
computer.
