View Full Version : logging on an invisible mode

Hello,

Most instant messengers offer the possibility to log on in invisible mode,
but this doesn't seem to be possible in Messenger. Is there some kind of
add-on that I could use so that I can log on, appearing offline to my
contacts until I decide they can see me online?

Lenny,

Try this;

Opening Messenger>File>My Status and selecting "Appear Offline"

Hi,

Thanks for your answer, but that is not what I mean. I want to be able to
LOG ON into Messenger, being invisible until I decide I want to appeare
online. For example, when you start ICQ, you have the same status as when
you closed it the last time. In Yahoo IM, you can go to the settings and say
you want to log on in invisible mode.

Lenny,

Not being an expert with Messenger, but it appears that whenever it starts
it defaults to "online" and you will need to manually set it to show
otherwise. However, there is a quicker method to change the setting; right
click the systray icon and choose "My Status" then make the appropriate
change.

Greetings Lenny,

Currently no Microsoft Messenger client has this functionality. There are some "patches"
around that do allow you to do this, but they can severely mess up your contact list and are
*not* recommended.

This feature is on the suggestion list, and the protocol does allow it, so hopefully we'll
see it in the future.

As a workaround, if you don't have many contacts, you can just block all your contacts before
you sign off, so when you sign in, no one will see you until you unblock them.
