I would like to use MSN Messenger 6.0 audio connection
computer-to-computer, and keep my firewall (ICF) up. To
do this I have opened ports 6901 (TCP and UDP).
Unfortunetly I am still unable to set up an audio
connection with the firewall up.
Is there something I am missing? Do I need to open up
additional ports? Perhapse I have opened up the wrong
port?
I obtained my initial information from this microsoft

Greetings Jay,
6901 is not used for audio conversations -- this is outdated information (6901 hasn't been
used since MSN Messenger 3!).
The ICF should automatically open and forward the necessary ports for audio conversations in
Messenger. It may be that you have some outdated port forwardings in your ICF which are
causing this problem. To do so, click Start, All Programs, Accessories, Communications,
Network Connections. Right click the internet connection, then click Properties. Click the
Advanced Tab, verify that the Internet Connection Firewall is on, and then click the Settings
button. Check to see if there are 'msmsgs' or 'msnmsgr' entries. If so, click each 'msmsgs'
or 'msnmsgr' entry and then choose 'Delete' to each one. Then close Messenger (right-click
the Messenger icon, choose Exit), then restart Messenger and try a voice/video conversation
again (with the firewall still on).
