Bernhard,
Had a problem that sounds like this, and spent an age figuring out a fix.
I'll warn you now that you *might* loose your saved mail.
The first thing to do is find your inbox file. Depending on your OS it'll be
lurking around somewhere...try running a find for the file INBOX.DBX. Under
XP It'll be in "C:\Documents and setting\<youruserid>\Local
Settings\Application Data\Identities\{some random string of
characters}\Microsoft\Outlook Express", this will only shaow if you've
enabled viewing hidden files. Once your in that folder, you should see how
it's files relate to your mail layout.
Ok, next were going to rename the file INBOX.DBX to INBOX.OLD
Open outlook express. If it opens without problems, then you've the same
issue I had....if not, close it, rename the file back and hope someone else
can sort a fix.
Assuming outlook opens ok, we now need your mail back. Create a sub folder
in your new, bare inbox called OLDINBOX
Quit outlook
Back in the folder with all your outlook files, you should see a new file
called OLDINBOX.DBX, Delete this file
Rename the file called INBOX.OLD to OLDINBOX.DBX
Restart outlook
All your old mail will now be in the subfolder OLDINBOX. Move the messages
back into the inbox, do this in small amounts, as you'll proberbly find that
one message is currupt, and will crash outlook, but since it's now not in
the inbox, the problem will only happen when you try that file. Once all the
good messages are back in the inbox, I'd delete the subfolder.
I really hope this works out for you, and clarifications, then just ask
