Hi...I am a first time user of this most helpful site. Is it possible to use
a microphone (mine works to record sounds, etc) and amplify the sounds
through the computer's speakers? How could I go about making that happen, if
possible?

Describe more fully what you attempting to achieve.
There should be a LINE OUT jack on the sound card, which can be patched to
an external amplifier. If this does not provide enough gain (volume), the
speaker out jack may work.

Radio Shack, and other such outfits have plugs, adapters and cords that
should accomplish what you want. Talk to one of their representatives.

Yes, assuming that you already have a set of working speakers attached to your
PC.

There should be a speaker icon in your Systray (Task Bar - lower right) to
access the Volume control. If so, double click on it and verify that the
Microphone control is not disabled (Muted). Adjust the volume control carefully
since this arrangement normally causes "feedback" unless you point the speakers
away from the microphone.

If you don't have the speaker icon visible, click Start, point to Programs,
point to Accessories, point to Entertainment, and then click the appropriate
icon.

For information about using Volume Control, click the Help menu in Volume
Control.

I have the Sound Blaster Live 5.1 sound card from Dell. I have plugged the
mike(it is unmuted) into the mike input on the sound card with an adapter
from radio shack. What I would like to do is connect a mike so that someone
can use a mike and amplify the sound through the computer. I do not have
an external amplifier nearby. If necessary I guess I could hook up the mike
to my stereo in another room. I just did not know if what I wanted to do is
possible. It seems that I should be able to do it. I have already tested my
mike and I can record my own voice and play it back, etc. But I would like
to have the sound come out simultanously as the mike is used. Thank you for
your help and Happy Holiday...Gail
