Open messenger, click Tools, options, then the
connections tab. See if you are configured to use a
proxy server. This may be preventing the automatic logon
since messenger is starting before the proxy server is
connected. It could be the version of proxy server that
you are using is selected incorrectly.

After a few reboots, I think Norton finally "worked it out." It starts now.

I take that back..I booted up this morning and it once again didn't want to
start up.
