View Full Version : Windows XP SP2 Firewall Problem

I’ve been using Windows XP Service Pack 2 for some times now. I had issues
with the network install but since I did the express install via windows
update I had little problems since. I recently noticed that the windows XP
security centre hadn’t bugged me for some time as it always popups up with
the firewall being off etc. Anyhow yesterday I tried opening up the XP
Firewall via control panel and received the following error:

“Due to an unidentified problem, Windows cannot display the Windows Firewall
settings.”

I’ve looked around in many newsgroups and forums for possible fixes and I
came across two fixes, registering 2 dll’s but the problem still persists. I
have noticed that when I go to the services option, there is no windows
firewall service or anything similar. By the way i am admin on the machine.
Registering the two dll’s and rebooting still didn’t do the job. I’m
wondering whether Microsoft are aware of this as I’m sure I am not the only
one with this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi

What output do you get if you run the following command in a
command prompt (Start/Run --> cmd.exe):

sc.exe query SharedAccess

Hi

I suggest you uninstall SP2, and then install it again...

Damn the ICF service does not exist on this machine. That must mean that a
Bagle variant got me. :(. Thanks for your help, will uninstall and reinstall
SP2.
