hello,

I have recently installed windows xp on my pc. At first, I could log in with
both windows messenger and MSN messenger 6 without problems, including after
I installed the Zoneallarm (3.7.143) firewall.
Then suddenly I couldn't log in anymore, no matter how I try.
I don't know what happened, possibly it could be due to one of the
following:

1) I had the windows auto update service enabled and some updates actually
were installed
2) I installed a proxy server I had from my bank for e-banking purposes. The
proxy address is set as 127.0.0.1 and the port is 8080. I had also to set
these parameters as https proxy in Internet Explorer. Anyway, any other
program runs perfectly, inluding yahoo messenger and ICQ.

Besides I have disabled the ICF firewall for my connection (ADSL, connected
via a usb modem).

Sometimes I connected my notebook to the desktop pc using the domestic LAN
features of XP, and shared the adsl internet connection. Yet, this worked
only if I disabled zoneallarm. Can this possibly affect messenger access
somehow ?

I've been trying any proxy settings in MSN messenger, tried previous
versions... nothing happened.
I have also scanned my computer with Norton Antivirus 2003 and the most
updated signature files, and it would seem that I have no viruses in my
system.

Once I had win98se installed on this computer, also with Zoneallarm and the
same adsl modem. I had the same connection problem with MSN messenger 6, but
the version 4.7 always allowed me to log in.

Now I can't log in with any messenger version.

Can someone please help me ?

Thanks in advance,
Antonio Pedretti
