Okay.. I downloaded your intel-fix reg file.

Now, previously, Windows Messenger did not work either.
*Windows* Messenger's audio now seems to work completely. -- I don't know
what has made it work, whether it be your fix, or the myriad of combos of
settings I kept changing while fighting with MSN 6.

-- MSN 6's audio, however, does not work - no matter what is fiddled
with, by-passed, routed, installed or removed.

I'm using an HP Pavilion - (which I hate) - and from what I read, the NIC
is a "realtek RTL8139" .. it's part of the devilish bundle, whatever it is.
I've had many problems in my life with HP, so if you want to just blame it
on them, I'll understand.

Is this the spot where I should just give up?.. What can one do to get
MSN 6 to work? ..sigh.. Thanks for your help so far.

Okay, here's the deal. I'm not nearly as smart as most other forum users,
but I'll give you some other sites to visit before you give up. Hit the web
for Marfer's notes. You'll find lots of info on xp probs and 3 links to
some very smart cats. ie. Kelly at Kelly's Korner.com, Doug Knox and the
Tomsterdam. My audio problem drove me to the point of insanity just
recently and it came down to a conflict with plug n play. WHAT! you say.
Do you have another sound card besides the onboard. They'll tell you it
doesn't matter. That both cards should be recognized but guess what.
Something takes over the audio part of the system and generally won't allow
you to set volume controls etc. Can you set volume in control panel?
Anyway, I ended up uninstalling audio drivers and components and reloading
XP. Plug and PLay will reconfigure stuff after that. All was well.

I'll check those sites out... I only have one card though, so conflicting
cards ain't the problem.. :P Thanks though...
