Hi Daniel,
Are your phones designed for use with a computer? If you are using
phones designed for other equipment (i.e. tape recorder etc.) then the
plug might be of different physical dimensions and will therefore not
open and/or make contacts in the socket.

| Hi Daniel,
| You say that you hear sound from your speakers, this suggest the
| playback is operating normally. When you plug your head-set into
the
| appropriate socket the speakers should be disabled but are not.
This
| suggest that there is a problem with either this headset input
socket
| (very likely as the speakers are not disabled) and/or the headset
plug
| is faulty. Try your headset on a friends computer and/or try a
| friends headset on your computer. This should help you to identify
| where the problem lies.
