I updated to XP SP2 through Windows Update. I have a problem with IE which
requires reinstalling XP SP2. Since I don't have a CD is there a way to
reisntall from the online version?

You need to download the full network install and use that. Or grab one of
the many CDs around that has the full SP2. For a while there seemed to be
more of those being handed out than AOL disks.

Reinstall IE, or the Operating System may not be required in most cases. =
What's the actual problem you're experiencing while using IE?

I'm a little confused and hope you (or someone) can explain a bit
further.

The Microsoft web page providing the network installation package
expressly states "DO NOT CLICK DOWNLOAD IF YOU ARE UPDATING JUST ONE
COMPUTER:" Yet I've seen other similar suggestions on this newsgroup
to download and install this same network version. None of those who
suggested this version for installatoin has so much as mentioned this
one-computer factor but it would seem to be an important
consideration. I know it stopped me dead in my tracks.

I've already installed SP-2 but now want to download and save an
uninstalled version in order to create a slip-streamed copy of Windows
XP. Since I already have SP-2 installed, I can't seem to find a place
to download another copy other than the network version. But I am not
yet convinced it is safe to do so.

Can you, or someone else elaborate?

Thanks

f

That note is not really relevant.

Microsoft intends single computer users to use Automatic Update and
those with multiple computers to use the Network Installation.
The Network Installation is the full SP-2 suitable for burning to CD
while the files from Automatic Update are not.

I personally think it best for all users to have the full Service Pack
on CD, whether downloaded or ordered from Microsoft.
