IE won't run after Installing XP SP2

While fixing a friends PC (inundated with Malware), I came to the final step
of installing XP SP2. I had spent several days cleaning the PC with the
following tools: 1) AVG Ver 7, 2) Spybot S & D, 3) ZoneAlarm.

Everything was working well UNTIL I downloaded and installed SP2. Upon
reboot, IE refuses to run. I still have internet access (using Cable Modem)
as I receive AV updates, etc. but the Internet browser simply won't run. I
even created a Word Doc, saved as html, and IE would not run to open it.

You need to use more than on spyware remover, such as adaware, SP2
specifically says to make sure all spyware is removed in its documents.
Can you get another browser to work such as firefox?
Try uninstalling sp2 and see if ie works first, then use another spyware
removal program.

I had considered installing FireFox, but was waiting until AFTER the SP2
installation.

I ran Spybot S & D ( current version -- current update) MULTIPLE times
prior to the SP2 installation...

Thanks for the suggestion....I'll obtain a 2nd Spyware removal tool, and try
the uninstall prior to formatting the drive and starting from scratch.
