Just a followup. My mother is having problems with windows messenger which
started yesterday. She can no longer sign in. She puts in her password and
it just comes up with the password screen again. She can not even change her
login name because it is grayed out.
I can use her login name and password and get on windows messenger so I know
her account is good.
So far I have done the following without success:
1. Did a system restore to 2 weeks earlier when messenger worked.
2. Cleaned out all temp internet files, and cookies
3. Turned off the XP firewall and tested didn't work restarted the firewall
did not work
4. Checked security settings all okay and are what they were before the
problems with windows messenger.
5. Did a regsvr32 softpub.dll
6. Went into the registy and made sure under
HCU\Software\Microsoft\MessengerService there was an entry for primary
service which was .net Messenger Service.
Still nothing works. Can one uninstall and then reinstall Windows Messenger
in order to repair it?

Greetings Frank,
It could be that this was just temporary, is this problem still occurring?
