I have a process (svhost.exe) that is using lots of
memory. I have run a virus scan (Norton Anti-Virus) and
found no viruses. I have searched for information on
svhost, but only find references to Viruses.

Is this a legitimate process? And if so, where can I find
out what this is used for?

thanks for the help...wc

Are you sure its not svchost? If its svchost this is a core part of Windows.
If its SVHOST I've heard of this used for IRC downloads etc. Use msconfig -
startup tab and see if its being started from there.

to add to what's been said - 'svchost' - actually
hosts more than 40+pgms in win xp and you can
see them listed - w/purpose at this site - ie
