WinXP SP2- error- USB port power surge- NO usb devices connected

Any Idea what is going on when the error suggests a problem with USB when no
usb devices are connected? I only get this message when I attempt to send a
file to the printer, which is connected with the parallel cable.

HP 812C printer.

Do you have a USB hub connected? Have you had anything connected to a USB
outlet previously? Has that been uninstalled? Troubleshoot!
