Messenger and Messenger PopUps

I believe we're talking about two different things here.
The annoying black and white spam pop-ups are caused by a
glitch in Microsoft's security. Go to their main site
for a free patch and they'll stop.
The fact of Messenger itself - which I don't want to use
and especially don't want in my face every time I turn
the computer on - well, that's another story. I tried
the Austin approach but had the same result - it already
shows "stopped" and "disabled." Someday when I have 25
hours I may try calling Microsoft and hanging around on
hold.
Isn't it fascinating that these message boards are all
about stopping the supposedly marvelous feature Microsoft
keeps foisting on us? sheesh!
