I was given this advice:
"First of all, be sure you have upgraded Windows
Messenger v4.7 to the latest build (2009). You can get it
at Windows Update. You will need to do this in order for
some advanced features of MSN Messenger to work
correctly. Then launch Windows Messenger, click Tools-
>Options->Preferences and uncheck "Run when Windows
Starts" and "Allow to run in the background". This will
keep it from starting and logging on automatically. You
can hack it off your computer. However, doing so will
also result in losing a lot of functionality in MSN
Messenger. Let me be more precise: not having the latest
build of Windows Messenger v4.7 means some functionality
of MSN Messenger v6.0 won't work *correctly*. Not having
it at all means some functionality of MSN Messenger won't
work *period*."
Hope that helps! Anyway, here's a useful link too, it
explains the difference between Widnows Messenger and MSN
Messenger! http://messenger.msn.com/Help/#LQ3
Good luck! :o
