Hmmm.

I had exactly that problem recently. Wife's pc and alwys appeared to
be left on as she would shut it down then walk away!

Tracking another problem i found that the hosts file has more than one
127.0.0.1 line in it which was a big nono.

Why this has the shutdown repeat i dont know but after that was
removed then it shuts down first time. !!! Stranger than fiction.

That is not a big nono. This is a good way to block add sites, and it wont
affect shutdown.

Not necessarily. Lines of 127.0.0.1 will stop you from accessing
sites. If they are sites you want to get to, having such lines is
a "big nono," but this is a good technique to prevent access to
malicious sites, porno sites, etc. I have hundreds of such lines
in my hosts file.
