View Full Version : Uninstalling SP2

I have XP Home Edition and I have installed SP2 and I want to know if I can
safely uninstall it using ADD/REMOVE. I cannot get AVG 7 to work. I've made
posts here as well as to the Grisoft's forum with no response. The only
other thing I can think to do is uninstall SP2, install AVG 7 and then
re-install SP2. I think the firewall is somehow blocking it because I cannot
get it to connect for updates although I have configured the firewall
according to the Grisoft's documentation. Any thoughts on this would be
appreciated.

Yes you should be able to remove it, assuming you did not delete the
uninstall directory. Nothing is ever safe, however. Some people have
uninstalled it successfully and some have had problems, though it is not
clear if those with problems uninstalling had problems prior to the
attempted install in the first place.

Is this sudden, new behaviour? AVG7 released a very large, multi-part
update on 09 Dec-04 and some users (me included) are getting "Connection
unavailable" errors.

It's due to zillions of people trying to download this update. Right-click
on your AVG icon in systray and click on 'Check for Updates'. It'll work
eventually.

No it isn't sudden. I've installed AVG successfully on one PC. On two others
the update will not work. I've tried everything. I've had problems with XP
on both these PCs after installing SP2. I don't know if that's related to
the AVG 7 problem, but I'm willing to give it a try. Thanks for the
response!

After several weeks and multiple tries, I finally successfully completed the
install today. Thanks for responding!

Lisa,
Sounds like too much bother. Just go ahead and re-install SP2 first with
Add/Remove( I did very recently without any problems) then why not get
yourself avast! for antivirus? It's free for 14 months and this baby does a
great job. Very cool interface with changeable skins etc.much like Winamp.

Good Luck
